"What would happen to the Earth if all humans suddenly disappeared? In his new book, The World Without Us, author Alan Weisman discusses how long it would take for all evidence of human life to vanish from the planet.

Weisman says that after just two days without human intervention, the New York City subway system would be flooded. After one year, every nuclear power plant on Earth would have failed or melted down."

It sounds like he wants you to feel guilty for what humans have done to the earth. Instead he shows that the great man made achievements would vanish like a sandcastle. More importantly though it's the process that's interesting. I have no idea how one would start such an amazing project. Check it out.

I listened to part of this in the car, and I just had listen to it again. Here is the gist of it
At the age of 45, Michael May, who had been blind since childhood, was given the possibility of sight through a revolutionary stem-cell transplant surgery. Author Robert Kurson has documented May's experiences regaining his sight in a new book, Crashing Through: A True Story of Risk, Adventure, and the Man Who Dared to See

It was interesting to find out that almost no one was happy after the surgery, but most of the blind callers said they would try the surgery even with chance of losing their lives. Also it gave me some perspective on how what I see is heavily interpreted by my brain in order to do anything involving sight. Check it out

I recall seeing his book just about everywhere in the late 80's. It is always great to hear somebody who has faced the great burden of leadership sharing what they know on the subject. I'm so tired of 9/11 conspiracy theories. It seems like every week I walk past some people talking about one or another theory. They always end up leading to the lowest common denominator. Those of you that are intellectually isolated enough to not know what that is, it is when someone starts showing you, that if you fold a dollar bill in just the right way, you can see the planes hitting the towers!

Why can't we use this potentially life saving oragami before the next disaster? Also, did you know that the Pentagon was not hit by a plane at all? You see, it was actually hit by the Loch Ness Monster, who was also by the way our nation's first president when the nation was founded after the Articles of Confederation.
Did I mention he was black too? If you have a minute, I made a link that disproves some of the more popular 9/11 conspiracy claims.

I realize that this blog has my name on it, and I have not been responsible for a single post. I might be more interested in posting to a blog if I did not spend all day taking care of and talking to a baby. That tends to limit the things that I can make conversation about. Unless, of course, you're interested in hearing about the frequency and consistency of bowel movements, feedings, and bathings.

I love taking care of Claire, but I now understand a little bit about the particular brand of insanity that belongs to stay-at-home parents....the kind of insanity that drives people to watch The View or Live! With Regis and Kelly.

Oops, Claire just threw up and managed to get it all over the back of her hair. Bathtime!
